CHERRYFIELD
RIVERWALK

Funding for the Cherryfield Riverwalk

We are pleased to report that all funding for the Cherryfield Riverwalk comes from private or government grants. Here are all of our current and past grants:

Community Resilience Partnership

Community Resilience Partnership

Community Resilience Partnership

The Community Resilience Partnership (CRP) is a Maine state initiative launched in 2021 to assist municipalities, tribal governments, and unorganized territories in reducing carbon emissions, transitioning to clean energy, and enhancing resilience against climate change impacts such as extreme storms, flooding, and sea-level rise.

The Cherryfield Riverwalk Committee commissioned Portland-based consultants FB Environmental for a Shoreline Stabilization and Vegetation Management Plan with the objective to provide the Town of Cherryfield with a report that addresses flooding, erosion, and stormwater runoff management. Creation of this report incorporated inclusive engagement with community members throughout the process to ensure that it represents priorities from the town.

See the report below.

AARP Community Challenge

Community Resilience Partnership

Community Resilience Partnership

Since its debut in 2017, the AARP Community Challenge has invested $24.3 million in 2,100 livability projects focused on adults age 50 and older, with 383 projects currently underway through 2025 funding.

The Town of Cherryfield and the Riverwalk Committee are formalizing the loop with permanent features such as signage, parking, benches, accessible picnic areas, river access, wildlife and interpretive stations to improve safety, accessibility, and opportunities for social connection. Located along two Scenic Byways and two bicycle routes, the completed Riverwalk will attract more travelers to stop in Cherryfield, supporting local businesses while preserving and highlighting the town’s history .

Maine Service Fellows

Community Resilience Partnership

Maine Service Fellows

The Maine Service Fellows program supports rural and underserved communities by placing recent college graduates in one- to two-year service roles where they apply their skills to address critical local needs, strengthen civic engagement, and build community resilience. The program also aims to attract and retain people committed to public service, particularly in rural areas, while involving community members in volunteer-based solutions. Maine Service Fellows is administered by Volunteer Maine, the state service commission.

From Spring 2025 to Winter 2026, Cherryfield will host a Maine Service Fellow.
